Expo Aisles Crowded with Pet Parents

FLETCHER, NC, (April 7, 2011)  — The 1st Annual Asheville Pet Expo held on April 2nd _ 3rd at the Western NC Ag Center, was a resounding success. . This year’s show sponsors included: WLOS ABC 13, 99.9 KISS Country, ARS Ultimate K9 Grass, The Wandering Pooch Travel Magazine, Dog Living Magazine, and Catawba Direct Marketing Solutions.The Expo drew 3,100 passionate and energetic pet parents and over 400 animals. They used the expo as a resource to shop and learn about services for their pets and mingle with other pet lovers and fur kids.The Asheville Pet Expo proved that the pet industry is vibrant and strong in Western North Carolina. We look forward to returning next March,” said owner, Carl R. Henry II.

Terry Natwick of the National Canine Cancer Foundation concurred with show owners. “I loved the variety of vendors and groups. The Asheville area was obviously ready for a show like this!” Robbie Ivey of the WNC Boxer Rescue commented on their success at the expo, “We were able to adopt 5 rescued boxers out to loving families. We were able to reach people in areas that we usually don’t.”


This Expo gave pet parents a fun and exciting event to attend with their pets. When asked what did you like about the show, Michael DiYorio of Pet Supplies “Plus” said, “The show brought more
exposure for our store. We found many new customers.”


The main arena kept the audience entertained. This year’s main arena Ultimate K9 Grass flooring was provided by Advanced Recreation Solutions. Many enjoyed the demonstrations by Johnny Peers and His Muttville Comix, the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit, the Pets on Parade Fashion Show presented by Adelaine Lockwood of Blaze-N-Skyy, A Bird Demonstration by Teri Rand, and the ever popular Petpalooza Pet Costume Contest. The expo also had a surprise guest appearance by Maggie the Wonder Dog. Maggie has appeared on Oprah, Jay Leno and won Animal Planet’s Amazing Pet Tricks Contest. She has also appeared in several commercial and has toured abroad. Maggie can count, add, subtract and divide. Along with all the fun entertainment, guests attended informative seminars on Common Household Pet Hazards presented by Dr. Katie Gibson of R.E.A.C.H. Hospital and Pet CPR/First Aid also presented by R.E.A.C.H Hospital. Wolfdogs: Common Misconceptions was presented by Nancy Brown of Full Moon Farm and Jim Paintiff of WNC Aquarium _ Imports spoke about Reptile Habitats
and Husbandry. Harold Sims of Catman2 spoke about the importance of Spaying and Neutering and Dr. Sarah Brown from Health Care for Pets gave attendees the Truths _ Myths about Rabies. “The thing I liked the best was all the information,” said Susan Boyd of Jonesboro, TN.
